A PRAYER FOR AMERICA

For many prophecy watchers the role that the American nation plays during the days of the end of the Church Age is not clear, due to the fact that the American nation does not seem to play a significant prophetic role during the events that lead to the return of Christ.

 

Some believe that America’s status as a major world

praying hands

power will be so greatly diminished by the time that Jesus returns to set up the Kingdom Age, that it is not worth mentioning in the prophetic scenario.

I take a different view, there are three different entities or dispensations that are clearly marked for closure before the Lord physically lands on the earth to set up His one thousand year reign called The Kingdom Age.

 

These three entities are: The Church represented today (remember that I am dealing here with nations not individuals) mainly by the western nations that have as their foundation Judeo-Christian principles and/or values, The Law represented by the nation of Israel, and what the Bible prophetically calls The Kingdoms of this World whose representation today comes from the United Nations.

 

The 20th century witnessed a rise of anti-Semitism in many western cultures along with the rejection of the Judeo-Christian values they had inherited. A vacuum occurred that led many in those western cultures to turn to eastern philosophies and isms, but eventually it was secular humanism and its embracing of anything and everything but God that prevailed. In today’s culture if you are a firm believer of biblical principles and moral traditions you are regarded as a right-wing nut.

 

Prophetically speaking the turning of the western European nations back to their pagan roots is part of God’s prophetic plan, for it is out of these western European nations that the revived Roman empire rises out of and eventually give all of their power to the head of the United Nations at that time who will be the anti-Christ.

 

But I do not believe that to be the case for our beloved America. For there are no pagan roots for America to turn back to.

 

Acts 16:6-10 “Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia (to the east). When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow then to. So, they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia (west of them) standing and begging him, ‘come over to Macedonia and help us.’ After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.” italics mine

 

Here we see a clear effort by the Holy Spirit and by the Spirit of Jesus preventing Paul and his fellow workers from proclaiming the Gospel to the nations of the east. It is not that God did not want His Gospel to go to the nations of the east, for the Gospel of the kingdom was to be proclaimed to the whole world, but rather Paul’s anointing for this specific missionary trip was that of nation building, future nations, including those of the new world yet to be discovered.

 

When Christopher Columbus and the Spanish conquistadores discovered a new land, they did so and offered it as a price to the nation that they represented, Spain, and the values that their nation embraced not limited to their Christian beliefs, but also including their pagan roots, these were introduced into the newly formed nations of the new world, not just by the Spaniards, but so did the many other nations that conquered land in the new world.

 

However, the pilgrims that eventually became the thirteen colonies that would eventually formed today’s American nation, did not come to the new world to conquer on behalf of the nations they left behind, but rather as pilgrims looking for a new land that was not contaminated with the paganism that their Christian faith had succumbed to in the old world. It was the quest for freedom, religious freedom, that gave birth to the American nation, not a desire for subjugation.

 

Though the roots of paganism were never far from the hearts of those who founded the new American nation, the intent was noble and prophetic in my humble opinion. For it was in God’s plan that at the end of time a nation of noble birth would assume the ministry of being the light bearer to the rest of the nations of the world of what the principles of true liberty and justice can be like, even in the midst of flawed humans whose simple desire is that of being free.

 

In the 20th century America shined liberty, promoted prosperity, and proclaimed religious freedom gallantly to every nation of the world, so as to when God’s judgment begins against those who reject the Judeo-Christian values that America preached by her actions, they would be without excuse as to what true nobility was like.

 

American blood stains battle fields in every habitable continent, American bodies have been buried in every ocean of the world after dying fighting for the freedom of others, every kitchen in the world is touched by American generosity, American missionaries have taught human dignity to the unlearned masses and American culture permeates all the tribes of the earth. Yet no nation that we have liberated fears us, for we are not into conquest, but we are for freedom, even the freedom of those who do not deserve it, that is the American way.

 

It can truly be said that America, though not perfect, and Americans, flawed as well, have definitely fulfilled the role assigned to them by their God the Creator they proclaimed.

 

So, what shall we said then of the fate that awaits as Americans? And what is the fate of our beloved nation at the end of time?

 

Psalm 73:25-26 “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire beside you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

 

If you noticed, I never mentioned the United States when referring to America. Let me explain what I believe, know that my perspective is that of an immigrant. I was born in Cuba in 1947 under a constitutional government, by the time I was six years old we had a dictatorship, and by the time I was twelve I had lived through a revolutionary war. In 1965 at the tender age of eighteen I fled what was then and still is as of this writing a full fledge communist regime, I came across the ocean in a small boat to a tiny island in the Kay Sal bank named after the tiny island, I was picked up by a British war ship and delivered to a navy base in Port Everglades Florida, where I was welcome as a political refugee. I settle in Los Angeles in September 1965 right after the August riots of that summer and began to learn what America is really all about.

 

America is a spiritual principle or let me say it another way, America is the soul of these United States. I was an American before I became a citizen of the Unites States. What is it that makes a nation if is not for its soul? What is the soul of America? To know what the soul of a nation is one must look at the principles upon which that nation was founded. Here is part of what the soul of America is:

 

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Let me ask you this simple question, is a member of the KKK a real American? Is it not self-evident that if someone thinks himself to be better that another because of their race, that that person does not live up to the American definition that all men are created equal? He may have been born in the United States and is a duly citizen of the United States, but such a person is not an American! For to be a real American one must embrace the soul of America and become one with it.

Let me give you an example from these men I believe to be the two greatest Americans of the 20th century. Former president of the U.S. Ronald Reagan and Pastor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

President Reagan united the nation in a way like no former president ever did since its founding. How did he do it? He knew and understood the soul of America and its founding principles, he knew the destiny of America, he clearly enunciated that America was to the world like a shinning city upon a hill, Americans could not help but to respond, for he was communicating with their soul.

Dr. King lived in a very different America, where persecution, fear and relentless discrimination ruled the day. He had a choice to make, was America a nation that needed to be fundamentally changed? Did America need another armed revolution? I believe Dr. King being a Pastor looked at the soul of America, after all that is what we pastors do, we look at the soul before deciding whether something or someone is redeemable. By looking into the soul of America he could easily see that the problem with America was not in is soul, we were just failing to live up to it. So his message was a simple one, he dreamed of the day when true Americans would live up to their founding creed. 

And it was real Americans who responded to Dr. King’s cry for justice because he spoke directly to their American soul!

So, what is the future of these United States? Clearly as we stand today, we stand divided, we stand divided because great forces are at work to remove from our nation the Creator who guarantees us those unalienable rights and the great moral principles that held us together from our founding.

My flesh and my heart may fail: I take great comfort in the fact that even if our United States, the flesh of America, were to fail, America has not failed! It is my deeply held belief that America is a very special nation, that the souls of her soldiers who died so that other men may lived, are safely guarded in the hands of Jesus Christ. That the sacrificial prayers that are being offered continuously on behalf of this nation are heard by God who is faithful.

 

What should then our prayer for America be?

 

Early this morning I got up to pray and the Lord put America in my heart and said to me: “Pray for America!”

 

I wrote all of this to tell you what my prayer was and what I think it is that God wants us to pray for concerning America.

 

As you pray for America, pray for her spiritual enlightenment, we need to see beyond our physical circumstances. America does not have any physical problems that cannot be solved from the spiritual perspective, be it division, dysfunction, debt crises, suicides, mass shootings, abortions, immoralities, hate, hopelessness, whatever you can name that it is wrong we our nation today can be solved if we just simply understand that our problems stem from us not living up to our American potential that emanates from our Creator and brings to us peace.

 

Let us not give up, do not think that is too late for America, for none of us knows the future, as long as there is breath in us let us thank God for America, let us ask God to forgive America, let us repent before God for the sins of America, let us forgive those who trespass against us and pray for their salvation and well-being. Let us pray His Word and will over America.

 

Psalm 74:19-21 “Do not hand over the life of Your dove to wild beasts; do not forget the lives of Your afflicted people forever. Have regard for Your covenant, because haunts of violence fill dark places of the land. Do not let the oppressed  retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise Your name.”
