Top of Page BLAST FROM THE PAST WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH ETERNITY? Written by Pastor Marcos Marrero Ecclesiastes 3:11 “...Also He has put eternity in their hearts...” Have you ever wonder what you would do if all of the sudden you found yourself with an unlimited amount of time...forever? I mean, let’s really think about it, a never ending life proposition would immediately arouse in any rationally thinking mortal human a variety of questions that are very relevant to the notion of immortality. Like...What kind of immortal life are we talking about? Will it include suffering and pain? What about sorrows and sicknesses? Is there going to be torment or tormentors in such an eternity? In the absence of any of the aforementioned, will I ever get bored in such an eternity? I mean, after all is said and done, how much harp playing can one human stand? It is bound to get to you after a while, isn’t it? Eternity is something that is very hard for us mortal humans to comprehend since we are surrounded by a world that is full of beginnings and endings. We see people that are near and dear to us leave this world, and they never come back. In one sense, life is turbulent like the weather in a Midwest state, if you don’t like the present condition, just hang around, for it will change, and usually not for the better. Ecclesiastes 3:14 “I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, and nothing taken from it. God does it, that men should fear before Him.” If there is an alarm that rings loudly in the hearts of men it is, It shall be forever, and our text makes it clear that God does this on purpose, so that Men should fear before Him. You see, according to the Bible, the human race in general, and individuals in particular, though we all had a beginning, we will never end for we are all eternal. And we have a choice as into which eternity we eventually end up in. An eternity that once we are in it, nothing can be added to it or taken away from it. So that we should not take it lightly, because sooner or later we will all enter into that eternal place. There are two eternal places to which we can go, and the choice as to which eternal place we enter is made here on the earth before we die, for that is when we enter into eternity, right after death. Luke 16:22-23 “So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.” Jesus is telling us that there are two clear and distinct destinations for all humans after they die and enter into their eternal abode. One is a place of comfort and the other is a place of torments, plural. Luke 16:25 “...But now he (Lazarus) is comforted and you are tormented.” And not only is Jesus telling us about the difference between the two destinations but He is also testifying to the fact that, once you get there, there is no way to get out, you are there forever. Luke 16:26 “And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.” Outside of faith, humans seem to think that once we die, since we are not in our physical bodies anymore, that we somehow are not really alive anymore and that the so-call torments of hell are not really real, but rather, something imagined. From every experience of the faithful into the spiritual realm, of which there are many Scriptural references, the spiritual realm is always a lot more real than our present reality could ever be, and that view is confirmed by our next verse of Scripture. Luke 16:27-28 “Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.’” It does not sound like the man in the torments of hell was imagining things, if anything, he sounded very logical by saying that if he could not escape the torments that he was experiencing, then at least a warning should be sent to his five brothers that were still alive, to keep them from coming into the reality of this place of which he knew his brothers, like himself before them, did not believe existed, even though the law of Moses spoke clearly about it and warned against it. Luke 16:29 “Abraham said to him, ‘they have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’” Out of the mouth of Jesus Himself, He is telling us that failure in our part to act upon what the Scriptures teach about eternity, that if we abdicate our responsibility to choose into which eternal destiny we want to abide, in accordance with what the Scriptures teach, that that failure will cause us to forfeit God’s eternal comfort and peace and will cause us to end up in that dreaded place of torment. Now why would someone fail to act upon such important matter as the one that deals with our future eternity? They may say that they don’t believe that there is an eternity to be had, but yet our opening Scripture declares that God has put eternity into our hearts, so that right from the get go they are in violation of the Holy Scriptures. Let us look at a few Scriptures that deal with this very important subject. Revelation 20:12 “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things that were written in the books.” Let us begin by establishing the fact that there is, according to Scripture, a final day of judgment coming, that it will comprise the physically resurrected bodies of all who were dead, that have been brought back to life to stand before the great white throne of God’s final judgment, in order for them to give an account for the actions of their lives while here on earth in their physical bodies. Revelation 20:13 “The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works.” Let us also establish that this judgment, although it comprises the multitudes that died throughout the ages, now appearing in their resurrected bodies, that it will be a personal judgment for each one of them individually. Each one of them standing or falling based on each one’s individual actions. Revelation 20:15 “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” So that all of those who ignored the instructions given by the Holy Scriptures on how to have one’s name written on the Book of Life, are cast into an eternity of torments with their eternally resurrected physical bodies into an Abyss from which they can never get out of. Revelation 20:10 “The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” So now that we have seen what this one eternity looks like, let us also take a sober look at the other eternity and see what it entails. Revelation 7:9-10 “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” What a contrast! You can hear the jubilation in the voices of all the redeemed from all the ages, rejoicing in the God who saved them, and in the Lamb who had delivered them out of the trials and tribulations that this world had put them through. Revelation 7:16-17 “They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” In the book of Luke chapter 16, Jesus told us about the man that ended up in Hades, how he was tormented by the flames and its heat, and how his desire was for Lazarus to dip his hand in some water and to touch his tongue with it, to relieve some of the torment that he was suffering. Here we see the opposite, not even the rays nor the heat from the sun is able to touch them, and they neither hunger nor thirst, for to them have been opened fountains of living waters. And next we see that God wipes away every tear from their eyes; the scars caused by all their pain and sufferings are finally removed as they move into a state of perfect bliss. 1 Corinthians 2:9 “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.’” Do not even think of getting bored in this eternity; we need to let go of those antiquated images of what heaven is like, you know, like sitting on a cloud playing with the harp all day long. We need to wake up to the reality of how vast and how great the present creation is, and how much more formidable and perfect the new heavens and the new earth that we will live on for eternity are going to be. Our God is so vast, His love so profound, His goodness unending, that every single day with Him will be a brand-new exciting day filled with astonishment and unending wonders, as we behold the great and awesome marvels that He performs continuously, but most of all our daily basking in the great and perfect manifestation of His love for us. Sign me up! You say, How do I get my name written in the Book of Life? Romans 10:9-11, 13 “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame...’ For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’” Pray this prayer: (say this outloud) Dear Jesus, I confess with my mouth that You are Lord, and I believe in my heart that God has raised You from the dead. Therefore I now confess before You that I am a sinner and I ask that You forgive me all of my sins and that You cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Thank You Lord Jesus for forgiving me all of my sins and for cleansing me from all my unrighteousness. I declare that You are God, that You are good, and that You are Holy. I declare that You are my God, that You have been good to me, and that by the precious blood that Your Son shed for me, to cleanse me from all my sins, that You have made me holy and have written my name in the Lambs Book of Life. Hallelujah! 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” God willing, I will see you all who prayed this prayer for the first time in heaven someday soon. But those who reject the TRUTH of the gospel of Jesus Christ will be dammed for eternity. I also believe that God will hold every believer accountable who does not strive to have the work of faith with power in their lives. II Thessalonians 1:11 "Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power." It is the demonstration of God's power through faith in the TRUTH of the Word of God, that will convict sinners of their error and cause them to cry out for our God's salvation. Luke 5:8 "When Simon Peter saw it, (the demonstration of God's miracle working power) he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying 'depart from me for I am a sinful man, O Lord!'" Top of Page DAWN OF THE END TIMES Written by Pastor Marcos Marrero July 27, 1997 Published to HoFM website for the first time on 1.10.2025 In the early hours of the morning of that day, we knew that something awesome was about to happen. It was one of those things that cannot be explained yet, you know it is real. In a way it did not seem any different than any other morning if you just concentrated on the elements rather than the happenings around you, for this definitely was not like any other morning; this was the last morning on earth for millions of people around the world. By the time that the next evening would come, life would never be the same for the billions left behind. You see this was the dawn of the end times. At long last, after many words had been written on the subject and an endless parade of predictions, it was here, it had arrived, and it was real. The evening before had started with great apprehension, as people beheld in utter disbelief the news that a great vast army led by Russian troops and a formidable coalition of forces from three continents had been totally wiped out as with the stroke of a pen in an instant and their bodies litter the Israeli countryside. The bright flash of light that had consumed them could not be explained in any other terms than divine intervention. The world leaders and politicians at large were dumbfounded with a lack of an explanation, which was the norm for those in charge of reporting the news. There was no doubt in all quarters that the returned of Jesus Christ was now eminent and that the time of judgment was now here, and there was no way of escaping it. For those of us who had been waiting for this blessed event since the day of our conversion it seem to come upon us with mixed feelings, for in the chill of the early morning hours and as we realized that the hour of our redemption was almost upon us, we would soon be meeting face to face the one who had paid the full price of our redemption. We also realized that the majority of the people of the earth had been deceived and had rejected the creators’ offer of peace, and now only the awful expectation of judgment was all that was left for the peoples of the world. They tremble before the mighty signs but yet lacked the faith to repent and call upon the name that would save them, the name of Jesus. Panic has broken out in many places and mobs of people everywhere had gone into a rampage destroying, looting, burning and killing all who would get in their way; since this is the end they reasoned, they did not have to be accountable to any authorities here on earth, and utter rebellion to all forms of authority was their final act of defiance before God. For the people of the way this were apprehensive hours to say the least, for the undercurrent theme throughout the multitudes was that we were the ones to blame for the current occurrences, and vengeance against them seems to be the purest form of retribution. We had all come from different areas of the city, like drawn by an invisible force. We could tell just by looking at each other’s faces what we had in common in the middle of chaos, there was this peace and assurance, and a very reverent holy fear gripped us all. There wasn’t much talking among us, just a great deal of silent praying as we all had in our minds someone who we were not sure if they would have the strength to call on the name of Jesus amid their confusion. As I huddled with my family I glanced at the starry night and memories of days gone by flooded my mind. Life then just seemed so brief; It seemed like just yesterday I was a little boy, up in the early morning fishing with my dad. Feeling the early morning chill as I crawled towards the back of the boat to keep warm, enduring those hardships in the hope that the day would bring lots of fish and a great time with my dad. Hoping that I will catch that big one so that I will have something great to brag about to my friends. The glow of the fires illuminating the distant horizon brought me back to the reality of the moment. It was so real. How many times in our walk we felt like just giving up, without realizing how much was really at stake. And now there was no doubt as to what hangs on the balance of faith, for to deny Christ at this point in time is the greatest of all mistakes and one that would be regretted for eternity. How can something that seems so simple as exercising one’s faith be so hard? But there they were, multitudes in the valley of decision; since they had given themselves to believe the assurances of the world, that there is no God and that we humans had evolved, how can all of the sudden one give oneself to change one’s mind and belief? Just because of a few great signs, there must be a logical explanation for all these happenings. The greatest fear of all humanity at this point in time was that nobody had risen [yet] to the task of assuring the peoples of the world otherwise. In the other hand, for the people of the way all those years of reading and studying the bible trying to make sense of it all had paid off. All the events that were happening had such clarity to them, all those hidden things now made perfect sense. The breeze had changed direction as dawn approached and one could smell the burnt ashes of what used to be the hopes and dreams of mankind. The darkest hour of the night was nearly over and if one looked intensely towards the eastern skies, one could see the dawning of eternity for those whose hearts were filled with hope. But only the deepest of darkness remained for those who placed their hopes on the abilities of man, what they had trusted upon had betrayed them. If only there was another lie that they could believe, another reprieve to postpone the inevitable. We all as one got on our feet and began to gaze intensely towards the dawn. It was like an unheard voice was calling to each of us, “ARISE MY CHILDREN, YOUR HARD SERVICE HAS BEEN RENDERED.” It was finally over! As we stood there in the flesh, with the early morning breeze refreshing our souls for the last time in this body here on earth we knew that the trumpet was about to sound, and there was no going back. Oh, what a feeling! This would be the last time here on earth for us, in this body of sin. As I began to ponder as to how the transfer would take place, I saw HIM. He was dressed in a long white robe and was moving towards me rapidly. He was walking in the air at a very fast pace and yet He was moving at the same time, and it seemed at the speed of light. As he very rapidly approached me, I could see his face, and my eyes locked into his blazing eye. I could feel myself dying, for every fiber in my body trembled at his holy presence. My heart pounded loudly and out of control. I was so scared I could not keep from shaking, but as my flesh panted for air that it could not find, I found that from deep within me a new man was rising, and in a deep and clear voice it shouted “HALLELUJAH, HE KEPT HIS PROMISE”. As the struggle between the two was ending I felt a violent collision. JESUS had grabbed me right at the middle of the heart without slowing down and I suddenly moved at the speed of light through the air. I could feel my new body forming out of the old. My tongue which was plastered to the roof of my mouth because of the great speed at which we were traveling, could feel the missing teeth growing and my spirit could not stop shouting “HALLELUJAH, HE KEPT HIS PROMISE”. Top of Page THE PROVEN WORD Psalm 18:30 “As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” There is a saying that in life nothing is certain but death and taxes. Whoever came up with that saying did not read our opening text. Can you imagine being protected by a shield that has been proven to always been perfect? That means it will never fail you no matter what. Let us begin with the most important of all the things that we have: life and by implication our fear of death. Psalm 18:4 “The pangs of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.” Can we trust our lives to the Word of God? Can the Word of God deliver me from fear and angst? Every person that is born will die someday, for according to God’s Word it is appointed for men to die once, and to be judged after we die. So that we are all continuously surrounded by the pangs of death and the fear of judgment. We are conceived and born in sin, so that our natural fear of death resides in the reality that we all fall short of the glory of God. Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” How does the Word of God assure me of a pleasant and eternal life after I am dead? Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” How can I be sure that He will forgive me since I know that I still fall short of His glory even after He became my Savior? Romans 8:10 “And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” The floods of ungodliness made me afraid, the word ungodliness in the original Hebrew text is the word Belial and it means a spirit of worthlessness. When we got saved, the spirit of Belial was replaced by the Spirit of God’s life and righteousness. Seeing that Jesus paid such a high price for us—His precious blood—we are not worthless anymore. Hallelujah! Ephesians 2:1-2 “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit (of worthlessness, Belial) who now works in the sons of disobedience.” There is ample evidence then, that Jesus has redeemed us from the pangs of death, and from the floods of ungodliness that once made us afraid; as it is written: They that call upon the name of the Lord will be saved, redeemed, healed, delivered and restored! Psalm 18:3 “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.” The word of the Lord is proven. From the very beginning God gave us His Word of promise, the word proven means to be refined. We know that the Bible was written over a period of fifteen or sixteen centuries, and that some of the original promises were given to mankind thousands of years ago. In the Garden of Eden God promised that the Seed of the woman would crush the serpents head. God chose Able instead of Cain, after Cain killed Able, God replaced him with Seth, which means appointed, and God continued the promise through the line of Seth to Noah. From Noah’s three sons, Shem was chosen to be the line from which the Word of the Lord would continue, that is why there is so much anti-Semitism today, for the Jewish people and the nation of Israel from which came the Scriptures, are the descendants of Shem. The world hates God’s Word and that is why they hate the Semites. From the line of Shem, Abram was chosen, and God entered into a covenant with him and named him Abraham, although Abraham fathered multiple children, Isaac was chosen to continue the line. Isaac had two sons, Jacob and Esau, but God continued to refine the line and chose Jacob, who had twelve sons; God chose Judah one of his twelve sons, and said that His Promised One would be called the Lion of the tribe of Judah. About four thousand years passed from the Garden of Eden, where the promised was first given, to Gethsemane, where the King of Life chose to become the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. Mortal men had no say as to how such refining would take place, even the wisest of the wise could not understand, or even presume to know, how our Lord would bring about the fulfillment of all His great and precious promises, but He did, praise God He did! 2 Peter 1:17-19 “For He (Jesus) received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’ And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” The odds of one man fulfilling by chance all the promises that God made concerning His Anointed One’s first coming are astronomical, an impossibility to be certain, that is what Peter as an eyewitness is telling us, and he says, you better pay attention to it if you want truth. There is no doubt whatsoever that the Word of God has been proven, it has been extremely refined and points us to a very precise person, and that person is Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord, who is our perfect shield and our total enlightenment. Psalm 18:35 “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great.” Psalm 18:28 “For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” Why in the world would someone put their trust in the manmade philosophies of this world which are proven wrong on a daily basis? Every major prediction that science has made, since they started to make them, are wrong. They do not come true and instead the opposite takes place. Man is always proven wrong; that’s a fact of life. Psalm 18:31 “For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? For years, since I started to teach from the Word of God, I began to notice how precise God’s predictions are. No matter how impossible a prophesy or a promise may seem at that time, if God said it would be thus, all you have to do is hang around a while and you will see thus. And what that has done for my life and my faith in the Word of God is amazing. It has transformed my life and the way that I perceive things. And even that, is what the Word of God promises to those of us who by faith are willing to believe in the certainty of His amazing promises. Psalm 18:32 “It is God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect.” In our present state of mortality, our perfection is not revealed in us as a physical reality yet, but rather, as a spiritual certainty that cannot be altered, For He who promised is faithful and will cause it to be so. I am what I am, not because of who or what I am, but because of who and what He says I am as long as I remain planted in His Word. Psalm 18:33 “He makes my feet like the feet of deer, and sets me on my high places.” In our last lesson I wrote about the choice that we all have. We can make choices based on the circumstances that surround us, or we can affirm the path that God has ordained for us in the high places, which is speaking about our spiritual journey while on this earth. Psalm 18:43 “You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; you have made me the head…” If you can make this verse personal is an indication that you are walking under the blessings of God to Abraham and His seed, and not under the curses of this world. Deuteronomy 28:13 “And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only (spiritual path, high places), and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments (and are willing to believe the promises) of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.” What an exciting reality it is to live in all the promises of God to us. And they all hinge in this simple act of faith on our part, He who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved! Psalm 18:3 “I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.” If you have not yet made the choice to call upon the Lord, why not make it now? He is the God who never lies, and He is the only God who can deliver you out of the hands of all your enemies. Is death your enemy? The words of Jesus are Spirit and they are life! Would you make His Word your life today? If you do give Him praise. Psalm 18:46 “The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock!
